Brief Summary

In 4REAL Vancouver, host Sol Guy brings actress Eva Mendes to his hometown to meet community activist Liz Evans and experience her dedicated work at the Portland Hotel Society. Liz and her 200-person staff at the Portland Hotel Society are on the frontlines of lending dignity and stability to the lives of people living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, a neighborhood overwhelmed with homelessness, addiction and disease. Walking around the neighborhood, Eva is immediately shocked by the drug use and the physical state of some of the community's residents. Eva and Sol help out with one of the local food programs, packing up food and biking their loads to one of the hotels. At night, Liz takes Sol and Eva to check out the Portland Society's needle exchange depot. Eva and Sol go on an alley patrol with the staff as they clean up and exchange needles, and the experience is both harrowing and emotional. Liz and the Portland Society's work inspire and impress Eva and she leaves with a newfound appreciation and a deep sense of respect for the community.
