Planet Mechanics : Air Propelled Sandwich

Brief Summary

Dick Strawbridge and Jem Stansfield use their engineering skills to solve environmental problems. In the first programme of this new series they tackle the problem of traffic pollution in congested city centres. A eco-friendly food outlet in the heart of the beautiful and historic city of Bath wants to deliver lunches to its customers but doesnt want to add to the smog and congestion. Baths hills mean pedal power is out of the question, and with a fast turnaround between deliveries, electric batteries could be a problem too. Dick and Jem hit on air power as a potential solution. Dick visits a company in the south of France that is building air powered cars and Jem comes up with the idea of an air powered moped. They recycle an old scooter replacing the petrol engine with air motors and the gas tank with compressed air cylinders. But will the bike be safe enough for the streets of Bath, and will it have the power and range to tackle Baths hills and keep the hungry customers satisfied?
