There are fish and then there are fish. Lurking in the murky depths of the worlds great waterways are bizarre giants specimens of such enormous proportion and odd appearance that they boggle the mind. In his quest to save the worlds big fish, aquatic ecologist Zeb Hogan has wrangled what may be the biggest freshwater species in the world, the Mekong giant catfish. But is it really the biggest there is? Well join Zeb in his quest to find out as he hunts down South Americas leading contenders. Along the way, well discover the unique facts about the Amazon that make it an ideal place to search for Megafish. Well explore the mysterious world of these monsters their awesome physical features, strange behaviour and the astounding cycles of life that transform tiny eggs (or small fry) into 400-pound beasts. A CGI map of Brazil will serve as our transition as Zeb journeys from location to location in his investigation. Over the course of this hour-long programme, Zeb will tackle Brazils arapaima over 400 pounds and as long as a couch, it may be the biggest fish in the Amazon, and Brazils piraba, a giant that can reach over en feet. Well use CGI to delve into the biology of fish and show off their strangest features. For example, well reveal how the bladder of the air-breathing arapaima functions as a lung...
